What is a 24 Hour Blood Pressure Monitor?
The Blood Pressure Monitor is a very small computerized device and its used to test your blood pressure over the course of the day.
The device is placed within a small pouch and then worn around your waist by way of a belt. The monitor will inflate the cuff and perform a blood pressure recording for every 30 minutes on a continual basis over the next 24 hours.
Who needs a Blood Pressure Monitor?
If your doctor had discovered some unusual blood pressure readings whilst at the diagnostic process he will ask for your blood pressure to be monitored over a 24-hour period. This is a very standard practice set out in current global guidelines.
The device will monitor your blood pressure in this period. The results will allow your doctor to notice if your blood pressure will require medication to allow tighter control, or some further investigation will be required.
Preparation for the 24 Hour Blood Pressure Monitoring
We strongly recommend that you wear a light outfit with a loose top, as you will be asked to remove your top (women may keep their bra on).
Setting up for 24 Hour Blood Pressure Monitor
- When you arrive to be fitted with your 24 Hour Blood Pressure Monitor, you will be asked to strip to your waist (women may keep their bra on).
- A qualified member will perform a normal blood pressure recording using an additional monitoring.
- Additional blood pressure recording will be also performed while using the monitor that you will be wearing for the period.
- After this procedure, you will be asked to wait for about 30 minutes to see the first blood pressure recording. If is successful/normal, you will be allowed to go home and continue your normal everyday activities.
